Early Check-in / Late Check-out

We try to accommodate as best we can, but we want our cleaners to have ample time to prepare for other guests, so it's not always possible. Please ask and we'll try! If you know you'll need early/late times, you can request ahead and we can often block off the time for a fee.

Standard GPS navigation should work well for this property. The address is 6913 Burkemont Rd, Morganton, NC 28655.

Before You Leave

• Put all dishes in the dishwasher and start it before you leave
• Take out any trash to the outdoor bins
• Turn off lights, fans, and heaters
• Make sure the hot tub cover is on
• Important: Return the outdoor TV to the stored position (see TV section)
• Lock all doors

Please Keep in Mind

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted inside the property. You may smoke outside, but please dispose of cigarette butts properly.

Pets

Pet policies are specified in your booking. If pets are allowed, please keep them off furniture and clean up after them outside.

Noise

Please be respectful of neighbors, especially after 10 PM. Sound carries in the mountains!

Water & Septic

This home runs on a private water system and a septic system. A couple of small favors keep everything running smoothly for you and the next guests:

• Be mindful of water use — try to stagger long showers when the house is full so the system can keep up.
• Only toilet paper goes down the toilets. No wipes (even "flushable" ones), paper towels, or feminine products — these clog the septic system.
• Please don't pour grease or food scraps down the drains.

Wildlife & Bears

You're in the mountains, and black bears do occasionally pass through. Spotting one is a treat — a few simple habits keep everyone safe:

• Never leave food, coolers, or trash outside or on the deck overnight.
• Keep the outdoor trash bins closed and latched.
• Enjoy wildlife from a distance — never feed or approach animals.
• Bring smaller pets inside at night.

This property sleeps 14 guests. Please do not exceed this number.

Pool Safety

The pool area has self-closing, self-latching gates for safety. Please ensure children are supervised at all times around the pool.

Smart TVs are available throughout the house:

• Living Room: 60" Roku TV above the fireplace
• Bedrooms: Each of the 4 main bedrooms has its own 50" Roku TV

• Game Room: 55-60" TCL TV (connected to gaming system)

You can log into your own streaming accounts - please remember to log out before you leave!

Outdoor TV

The deck features a TV on a powered articulating arm:

• To lower for viewing: Press OK + Down (continues until you press OK again)
• To raise/store: Press OK + Up
• To rotate left/right: Same method with left/right buttons
• Memory 1: Watching position
• Memory 2: Stored/up position

Gaming System

The TV above the stairs (in the upstairs game room) is connected to a gaming system:

• Grab the two controllers in the bowl on the table
• On the TV, go to Inputs and select the gaming system
• The controllers will then work — enjoy!
• To return to streaming, press the Home button

Using the Pool

The property features a beautiful heated pool with mountain views!

Pool Heating

The pool can be heated based on the season:

Summer	No charge (pool set at 80°F)
Shoulder Months	$100/day heating fee
Winter	$150/day heating fee

We start heating at noon on your arrival day and cut off at 10pm on your last night. The fee is charged per night for the full stay.

Pool Safety

• The pool area has self-closing, self-latching gates
• An alarm on the house door to the pool area alerts when opened
• No glass containers in the pool area
• Children must be supervised at all times

Outdoor Bathroom

There's a convenient outdoor bathroom near the pool area.

Using the Hot Tub

Your private hot tub is located on the deck.

Temperature

• The hot tub is maintained at approximately 95°F
• To adjust temperature, use the controls on the side of the tub
• Allow 2-3 hours for significant temperature changes

Hot Tub Etiquette

• Please shower before getting in the hot tub. Dirt, body oils, lotions, and sunscreen can contaminate the water and clog the filters. A quick rinse keeps the tub clean for everyone!
• No glass containers near or in the hot tub
• Replace the cover when not in use to maintain temperature

Water Care

We add a little extra chlorine to keep the hot tub clean and sanitary for every guest. If you ever notice a strong chlorine smell, just lift the cover and run the jets for a few minutes to circulate and air out the water. If you're staying longer than a couple of days, you're welcome to add a chlorine tablet to keep the water fresh.

Towels

Hot tub towels are provided. Please use designated towels rather than bath towels.

Settling In for the Night

With so many spaces in the barndominium, it's easy to leave a few lights on at bedtime. Before you turn in, a quick walk-through does the trick:

• Switch off the lights in each of the 4 bedroom suites and their bathrooms
• Turn off the main living, kitchen, and dining lights
• Check the upstairs bunk room and game room
• Turn off the deck, pool, and outdoor lights when you come inside

Pickleball Court

The property features its own pickleball court! Equipment is available in the outdoor game box.

Putting Green

Practice your short game on the putting green!

Upstairs Game Room

The upstairs game room features:

• Ping-Pong/Pool Table: Combo table for both games
• Shuffleboard Table: Full-size with bowling pin option
• Gaming System: Connected to the TV above the stairs
• Seating: Chaise lounge, couch, and storage benches

Where's the equipment? The ping-pong paddles & balls, pool cues & balls, and shuffleboard pucks are stored inside the game-room benches.

Yard Games

Cornhole boards and other yard games are available for outdoor enjoyment.

Rootball

Rootball is a fun local yard game invented up the road at the Root Bar in Asheville — think a mix of horseshoes and bocce. Here's the quick version:

• Setup: Place the two stakes about 30 feet apart. You'll play with a plastic ring (the "root") and a ball.
• Your turn: First toss the root toward the far stake (like a horseshoe), then throw the ball underhand toward the stake and root.
• Scoring: Earn points for hitting or leaning the ball against the stake, and for landing the ball in the root. Landing the ball in the middle of the root is called a "Saturn."
• Winning: Play to 12 points. Ringing the root around the stake and then landing the ball in it is the ultimate game-winning shot!

Propane Fire Pit

The outdoor fire pit is propane-powered (not wood) for easy use!

How to Light the Fire Pit

1. Make sure the propane valve is open
2. Turn on the switch on the wall near the fire pit
3. Press the igniter button on the fire pit
4. It can take up to 45 seconds for the fire to light - this delay is normal!

Indoor Fireplace

The living room has an electric fireplace (not wood-burning) that puts out real heat!

How to Use

• The white switch by the side door (closest to the fireplace) must be in the ON position
• Then control with buttons on the face of the fireplace OR use the remote
• Remote is kept on the right side of the fireplace

Outdoor Heaters

The deck has 3 Bromic propane heaters for comfortable outdoor time in cooler weather.

How to Use

• Push the time button (5/10/15/30/60 minutes)
• Press the power button to turn off

Grill

The property has a propane gas grill on the front porch (which also has a couch and chairs for relaxing).

• Propane tank is connected and ready to use
• An extra tank is available
• Turn on the propane valve, then ignite using the built-in igniter
• Always turn off the propane when done

Main Floor - 4 Identical Suites

Each of the 4 main floor bedrooms features:

• King bed
• 50" Roku TV (remote in wall holder)
• Private en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower (no tub)

Upstairs Bunk Room

• 3 sets of bunk beds = 6 twin beds
• 55" TCL TV
• Shared bathroom with double vanity and shower/tub combo

The spacious kitchen is fully equipped for cooking for large groups.

We provide a starter supply of coffee and K-cups. With a large group, you may want to bring extra!

Laundry

Washer and dryer are located in the washroom. Detergent is provided.

Trash & Recycling

Trash bags are under the kitchen sink. Outdoor bins are located near the driveway.

Climate Control

Thermostats

Thermostats are located in the main hallway and control central HVAC for the home. We recommend keeping them around 70-72°F.

Electric Fireplace

The living room electric fireplace provides additional heat (see Fire Pit section for instructions).

Outdoor Heaters

Three Bromic propane heaters on the deck keep outdoor spaces comfortable in cooler weather.

You're in the heart of the North Carolina mountains — some of the most beautiful country in the East is a short drive away. Here are our favorite spots, from bucket-list peaks and waterfalls to great food downtown. (Drive times are approximate from the cabin.)

🏔️ Mountains & Big Views

Also nearby: Hawksbill Mountain (a 1.5-mile climb to another gorge overlook) · the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks (below) · NC-181 “The Snake,” a 27-mile scenic mountain drive right out the door.

💦 Waterfalls & Swimming Holes

Also: Upper Creek Falls (~45 min, on NC-181) has tiered cascades and a swimming hole with a rope swing — a great summer splash. Note: High Shoals Falls in South Mountains State Park is still closed for storm repairs, but the park's other trails are open (~40 min).

🛶 Lakes, Drives & Local Legends

Brown Mountain Lights (~50 min): one of the South's great mysteries — unexplained glowing lights that appear at dusk, best seen from the Brown Mountain Overlook on NC-181 or from Wiseman's View. Bring a blanket and stay for the show.

The Olive of Morganton	A fun, unique stop — a whole wall of extra-virgin olive oils & imported balsamic vinegars to taste, plus a fine-wine & craft-beer bar to sit and sip. (111 E Union St)
Fonta Flora Brewery	Nationally recognized farmhouse & seasonal beers — the area's standout brewery.
Moondog Pizza	Casual, crowd-pleasing pizza night (a favorite of our past guests, too!).
Boulevard Barbeque	Local BBQ classic, easy for groups.

Wine & the lake

Silver Fork Winery	Tastings with mountain views — a lovely afternoon (~30 min).
Perry's Berry's Vineyard	Wine tastings, berry picking, and an on-site bistro (~40 min).
Bones Jones Burgers & Butchery	Hearty burgers near Lake James — perfect after a hike or a lake day.

Worth the drive

Asheville (~1.25 hr)

A nationally known food & brewery scene, the River Arts District, and the Biltmore Estate (America's largest home) — a great full-day trip.
